It all took place on December 2006,  when Josie went to pick her sister up from the bar In Essex County England where both sisters worked.

Barnes said she felt helpless and totally humiliated that after thieves put a gun to her head , tied up her arms and legs, & forced her to lie down on the floor of the bar, one of them took time out to ridicule her weight problem.

After the ordeal Barnes withdrew from work, the rest of the world and resorted to sitting at home eating  junk food. Because she was terrified to go outside, she remained indoors and piled even more weight from living her reclusive lifestyle.

Josie said: ‘I had flashbacks and slept with the light on for more than a year. My confidence was totally destroyed.

‘At school people would call me lardy or fatty and shout nasty things.

‘When the robber called me fat that night, it just brought all those horrible memories back.’

After 2 years Josie decided she had enough and would no longer allow the bullies to have power over her.  She signed up for Weight Watchers the day after she returned from a family trip to Aruba.  She managed to shed nearly 115 lbs and will be able to slip into her dream wedding dress when she gets married this summer.  The former bar tender has dropped down from a size 24 to a size 10 and plans on staying there, especially since it helped her to meet her Turkish hunk fiance.

Josie Barnes believes if the robber’s haunting word’s never inspired her to make changes nothing else would have.

The 5’2 brunette, from Riverdale California, weighs a measly 150lbs soaking wet, so it is unlikely that she posed a serious threat to any of those American Idol chairs in the studio.
