Smoking Weed Has A Side Effect: Schizophrenia?

Since the days of Reefer Madness, scientists have sought to understand the complex connection between marijuana and psychosis. Cannabis can cause short-term psychotic experiences, such as hallucinations and paranoia, even in healthy people, but researchers have also long noted a link between marijuana use and the chronic psychotic disorder, schizophrenia.

There are many studies that demonstrates a link between weed and schizophrenia. Studies have shown that people with schizophrenia are twice as likely to smoke pot as people not effected by the disorder. Other studies have shown the flip side, weed smokers are twice as likely to develop schizophrenia. One study even concluded that one hit of the bong increases your chance of developing a mental illness by 40 percent.

The real deal about pot and mental illness is the results of scientific research is all over the place. Pot use amongst teenagers has exploded from a small insignificant group in the 40s and 50s to about 70 percent of teenagers using by the turn of the century. Meanwhile, the incidences of schizophrenia has been on the decline. The research on marijuana is at odds with itself but one thing is certain amongst all of the researchers though. All agree that everyone who smokes it feels good.

Lord of the Flies , written by William Golding, is a story about young boys stranded on an island. The novel supposed satirized society and the interactions of good and evil. In the story, the brutal slaying of a female pig takes place and her severed head is impaled with a sharp stake and left upright in the jungle as an offering to a monster feared to be on the island. This corny high school English lesson was told only to introduce a bizarre real life story that happened this past Sunday.

A woman leaving for work with her 9-year-old daughter on Sunday morning found a frozen pig head stuck on top of a pole next to a tree in her yard. Now that’s some “Lord of the Flies” shit. Jennifer Keller said the sight terrified her daughter. Caldwell Police Sgt. Jim Watson said the head may have been there for just a few hours before being discovered. The perpetrator of this crazy bizarre savage act could be charged with disturbing the peace; a misdemeanor. How about being charged with being disturbed?

“Police say a man was recovering from a gunshot wound after he shot himself in the leg with a handgun while practicing a quick draw. Police said a bullet from a revolver entered the 61-year-old man’s leg just below the left knee and lodged in his foot.

Police say when rescue crews arrived at about 7 p.m. Tuesday they found the man sitting on the sidewalk near his home.

Police said the man was in stable condition”
