Lizzie Velasquez, a 21-year old woman from Texas, suffers from a rare and undiagnosed syndrome that has her eating every 15 minutes just to stay alive. Although she consumes a mind boggling 60 meals a day, Velasquez’s skeleton frame barely weighs 60 pounds and contains almost zero per cent body fat . Lizzie said:
I weigh myself regularly and if I gain even one pound I get really excited. I eat every 15-20 minutes to keep my energy levels up. I eat small portions of crisps, sweets, chocolate, pizza, chicken, cake, doughnuts, ice cream all day long, so I get pretty upset when people accuse me of being anorexic. When I meet new people I have to say: ‘Hi, I’m Lizzie and I have this rare syndrome, I am NOT anorexic’.
Lizzie Velasquez was born four weeks prematurely and weighing only 2lb 10oz. This tiny infant had doctors astonished by her condition and for surviving the birth. Experts from around the world came to see this baby who only weighed 2lbs and who has this rare condition that genetic experts could not diagnose.
Through numerous of testing and studies, Professor Abhimanyu Garg, believe Velasquez has a syndrome called Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome which causes aging, fat loss from the face and body. It has been said people with Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome, may have symptoms of triangular, prematurely aged faces with pointy nose, not being able to walk, talk, or have an everyday normal life.
Though Lizzie Velasquez has this rear syndrome and has to consume 5,000 – 8,000 calories a day. This does not stop her from her daily activities and striving to become a motivational speaker.
