An elderly South African Man got the shock of his life last Sunday when he woke up in a morgue refrigerator.
A South African Health Department spokesman says the man woke up 21 hours after his family called an undertaker, who also concluded the man was dead after an asthma attack.
Morgue workers were frightened that Sunday afternoon when the heard someone shouting from the fridge. Believing it was a ghost, staff members ran as fast as they could out of the building.
The owner of the morgue called police and they re-entered the building with guns drawn – as if bullets kill ghost. The morgue owner said the man asked “How did I get here?” He was then taken to a local hospital where he was checked out and released.
Since South Africans presumably don’t require a medical opinion to determine whether love ones are truly dead, a spokesman for South Africa’s Health Department used this incident as a reminder to South Africans why they should confirm with professional health workers that family members are really dead before sending them to the morgue.
